This week was filled with one crazy gym experience, a visit with a sweet and dear friend, and finished wrapped up in a few good books.
After I started my Extension job, I realized that Extension is known for hospitality. In other words, we meet. We eat. Repeat. I hadn't been on the job but a few months and knew I had to find a way to avoid the Extension 15. I started going to the gym, got a trainer, and the rest is history. A year and half later, the gym has become habit and I genuinely look forward to getting my butt kicked each Monday and Wednesday. This week was no different. On Wednesday, I had to use the bathroom before we started warming up. I did my thing and when I went to flush there it was. HUGE. NASTY. SCREAM WORTHY. Y'all, on the toilet seat was a cockroach. Not just any ol' cockroach. He must have been a granddaddy cockroach. Let me just say, he was not on the toilet seat when I sat down. Since cockroaches like the dark I think he was on the toilet rim and underneath the seat. I surprised him and Lord, Almighty, he surprised me too. My heart was racing and I thought, nothing like getting a little cardio in before you ever step foot on the treadmill! To my surprise, I did not scream. I stayed calm. I washed my hands and told my trainer, Danny, that UK maintenance needed to be called. It wasn't really funny when it happened but now I just shake my head and think of course this would happen to me. Hopefully, I never see the granddaddy cockroach again and will take my time checking out the toilet in the gym.
After the cockroach incident, I headed over to my dear friend Whitney's house. I was Whitney's RA and she lived across the hall; it didn't take long before a lifelong friendship was made. 6 years later, we survived college, she got married, bought a house, and now has a little boy that I am in love with. Even though we live in the same town, I don't stop and visit as much as I should. We were determined to get together and catch up and we did on Wednesday night. Every time I see Whitney, I stop and realize what a wonderful woman she is. She inspires me. Since Jackson was born, I have looked at Whitney in awe. She works a demanding job, she runs a house, she is a mother to a four month old, a wife, a sister, a daughter, and a friend. She juggles it all. She has eased into motherhood with such grace. All night long, Jackson couldn't take his eyes off his momma and can you blame him? I watched her and everything she does is filled with love, grace, and just a little bit of Southern sass. Jace and I are not ready for kids yet but when we are, I hope to half of Whitney's grace.
I rounded out the week by finishing a few books by Mom had given me. These books are equivalent to Lifetime movies--sappy love stories. I admit it: I love them. Debbie Macomber is the author and right now I am half way through a 3 book series. Within the first chapter, you know the main characters are going to fall in love and sure enough they do! They are an easy to read and I am thankful they do not contain theories or evaluation tools. College and Graduate school turn many away from reading for pleasure so I am happy to be picking up this hobby again.
That is all for now. Until next time.

After reading various blogs this past year, I was inspired to start one of my own. After thinking it over and questioning if I am crazy, A Southerner's Story was created. I want to chronicle the small moments, big moments, and moments in between that happen in my life. I feel as though I am on the brink of the most exciting part of my life and I want to remember this time. I hope to keep you updated on my life, the ups and downs of being a law student's girlfriend, and share my laughs with you along the way.
